The day started with breakfast at Oxmoor Valley followed by an overview of the day and a policy and impact panel discussion. The group then toured the school and visited several classrooms, with Oxmoor Valley teachers serving as tour guides.
The group proceeded to Carver for their second stop of the day, where discussion focused on public school districts. Dr. Pamela Williams, Chief Academic and Accountability Officer for Birmingham City Schools was among the panelists for this session.
After lunch and an overview of the school by Principal Tikki Hines, the group split into breakout sessions, with each group sitting down with a Carver student to discuss their aspirations and challenges.
Leadership Birmingham continued their tour at Alabama School of Fine Arts and Girls Inc. of Central Alabama. At Girls Inc., Dr. Love moderated a panel discussion with principals from area schools, among them Sun Valley Elementary School Principal Delilah Stitt. This was followed by a classroom-focused panel discussion, which included Reggie White, teacher mentor for Birmingham City Schools, and Tori Robinson, third grade teacher at Sun Valley Elementary, among its participants.
