On Nov. 5, many Birmingham City Schools high school students will be eligible to participate in their first presidential election.
To encourage students to register and vote, National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Junior Chapters for Birmingham City Schools are holding voter registration drives this week. The first event took place today at G.W. Carver High School and will be followed by another drive at Ramsay High School on Oct. 3 at 10 a.m.
During today’s event at Carver, students who are eligible to vote were provided information on how to register, including polling site location and the voting process. The event also included a panel discussion moderated by members of the Birmingham Chapter of The Links, Incorporated and featuring guest panelists such as Tanesha Derico, NAACP Metro Birmingham Branch Membership Chair, Shekeitha Tatum, Vice-President of Agency Relations for United Way of Central Alabama, Dee Reed from Black Voters Matters, The Foot Soldiers, and SGA/NSBE students. Ramsay’s event will follow the same agenda.
The events are sponsored by The Birmingham Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, the NAACP Metro Birmingham Branch, Fairfield City Schools, and Birmingham City Schools.
