Each month, the Birmingham Board of Education recognizes the employees who go above and beyond the call of duty to make the district a better place, even when no one is looking.
These employees are critical to establishing and maintaining a positive culture and a safe, secure, and nurturing learning environment. They inspire their colleagues and our students to pursue excellence, serve others, and collaborate effectively towards common goals.
During its regularly scheduled meeting on Sept. 10, the board recognized the following:
Nelly Elorza, ESL Teacher, Tuggle Elementary School: A dedicated bilingual educator, Ms. Elorza has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to her students and the educational community. Her teaching has resulted in significantly improved WIDA ACCESS scores for her students. She excels as a community liaison, bridging gaps between families and the school. Her volunteer efforts include teaching at summer camps and contributing to curriculum development. Her recent recognition by Latino News and WBRC for winning a classroom makeover and being nominated as one of the best ESL teachers in our district further highlights her exceptional skills and dedication.
Richard Conner Ford, Music Teacher , EPIC Alternative Elementary School: Every day, Mr. Ford delves deeply into teaching the foundational ideas of music. He even conducts short musicals in the school's hallways with his guitar. He interacts with students and creates a dynamic learning atmosphere. Furthermore, he makes a special effort to support teachers, staff, and students with their technological demands. He is a vital member of Team EPIC.
